What are some pros and cons for the following (keeping in mind that the items are suppose to be suitable for a school environment):

e.g. a shade cloth – pro: covers large amound of area.. con: expensive..

1.. a handball court
2.. solar panels
3.. outdoor solar lamp (e.g. con: easy to steal, etc.)
4.. concrete
5.. ivory pavers
6.. tiles

Good teen/boy’s outdoor watches?

I’m trying to find a good watch similar to the Casio Pathfinder, but in a smaller size. It would need to have many of the same features like a barometer, altimeter, compass and hopefully use solar power. I don’t see many good options when searching for boys, teens or women. It’s not enough to adjust the band size, as the case itself is large (50mm in diameter, 17mm width typically) and that makes it awkward. I would appreciate any tips.

I’m looking to replace some batteries on Solar Lights. They Read: Wintonic Ni-Cd AA 600mAh 1.2V. I need specific store names. Wishing I had gone with electric outdoor lights as I have looked at Lowe’s, Wal-mart and K-mart. Manufacturers really irk me.

Could a 12v deep cycle battery power a tv with a 20″ or larger screen?

I’m looking for a way to power a small to medium sized television in a place with no electricity. This is for a temporary outdoor art installation. So I was wondering if a 12v deep cycle battery would do the trick? Maybe if it was hooked up to a small solar panel? I don’t care if it only works on sunny days. Has anyone tried this? Or does anyone know of a better way?

I just recently purchased a house that came with an outdoor hot tub. I live in MA so it’s already getting pretty cold at night so I was looking for anything I can do to help maintain the water temparture and cut down on electric bill. I was hoping to get a floating solar blanket in order to help protect the hard cover and to keep more heat in. First of all is this worth it? I have read some people say it makes a big difference but others have said not to bother. I currently use a floating bromine dispenser and I was wondering if having the floating cover on top of the dispenser would prevent the chemicals from being dispersed correctly? Any advice you have would be much appreciated.

What pump to use for an outdoor fountain?

I would like to get a small fountain in the center of my garden, however I do not have an outdoor plug. I also cannot get one because it is a rented flat, and you cannot just run cords out of the window in the center of a city.
So, what else can i do? Can i run a fountain off something like a car battery, buried in a sealed box a few meters away? Would a solar fountain work, or is there not enough sunlight this far north (55N), also where do you put the solar panel where it doesn’t look ugly? Are there other types of battery powered pumps, and where would you get them from?

For any suggestions of where to buy pumps, note that i am in the UK.

Outdoor motion detector security light?

My landlord installed an outdoor motion detector light a few days ago and the flood lights on it aren’t working. I know that the light switch that operates it works because the other light that is on that particular switch works and I know that the light unit works because when I walk by it, a red light starts blinking. I thought that it was just because it has a solar cell, however, I was coming in from work at 11:00 PM last night, when it is completely dark outside, and it still wasn’t working. What could be wrong with this thing? I’ve already called my landlord to notify him of this problem, however, he is very difficult to get in contact with. Thanks!
There are three controls on the light: a sensitivity control, which is turned to maximum, a timer control, and some little whitish-greyish button.

Where can I find a spotlight?

I need a spotlight for my flagpole for at night. I would like it to be solar, but I can’t find anything that is bright enough. I don’t want to spend a lot of money. I could use one with a cord if needed, but I just can’t find an outdoor “sit on the ground” spotlight. Also, are their spotlights that can attach to flagpoles, then it can be solar…
